Dear Researchers,
Belmont Forum is organizing a webinar series titled “Ocean Accounts”, aiming to provide a holistic framework for assessing environmental, economic, and social data related to ocean and marine ecosystems.
The “Ocean Accounts” webinar series seeks to contribute to the development of interdisciplinary projects and to promote data-driven, holistic approaches in ocean-focused research.
These webinars are primarily designed for international consortia preparing proposals under the Belmont Forum Ocean 2 Collaborative Research Action (CRA). However, they are open to all researchers and stakeholders working in the fields of marine and ocean studies, sustainability, environmental policy, and the blue economy.
Ocean 2 Call: The deadline for international applications under the Belmont Forum Ocean 2 Collaborative Research Action is 5 March 2026. The webinar series aims to support consortia preparing proposals by helping them better understand the “Ocean Accounts” approach and strengthen their project ideas accordingly.
Scope of the Webinar Series
The “Ocean Accounts” approach is based on an integrated accounting and data framework that evaluates the ecosystem services provided by oceans and seas in relation to environmental conditions, economic activities, and societal impacts.
The webinar series will cover the following themes:
- Environmental Accounts: Status of marine and ocean ecosystems, ecosystem services, and environmental indicators
- Economic and Environmental-Economic Accounts: Ocean-related economic activities, financial flows, and environmental–economic interactions
- Social Accounts: Communities benefiting from ocean ecosystems, governance structures, and social impacts
Webinar Schedule
- Environmental Accounts: 10 December 2025
- Economic and Environmental-Economic Accounts: 21 January 2026
- Social Accounts: 26 February 2026
